Jaguar-Land Rover Opens New Assembly Plant in India – Releases its First Model

Merritt Island Jaguar is pleased to announce that Jaguar – Land Rover has recently inaugurated its first Indian factory on Friday and a Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV was the first vehicle to be rolled out of this factory. After India’s auto manufacturing giant, Tata Motors, bought Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008, this is the first assembly plant of the brand which is located near Pune, Maharashtra in India.

Officials at Tata Motors believe that the assembly of Land Rover models in India will help the brand to better compete against its class competitors like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes –Benz, all of which are now building their vehicles in the South Asian country.

The booming Indian economy and the growing demand for luxury products in India have given a boost to the company’s sales figures which have seen a significant growth since they opened their first showroom in 2009.

The new plant in Pune will assemble Land Rover Freelander 2 vehicles supplied in Complete Knock Down from the Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool, UK. As of now, the vehicle will be available in two variants in India—the TD4 SE Automatic and the SD4 HSE Automatic.
